Official Record - January 4, 2020

The Patriots lost to the Tennessee Titans 20-13 in a Wild Card game at Gillette Stadium. It was disappointing but not devastating. Playoff losses happen.

What nobody knew: This was Tom Brady's last game as a Patriot.

Town Council, January 5, 2020:

"Well, that was disappointing. But we'll be back next year. Brady's not going anywhere. Right? RIGHT? Someone confirm Brady's not going anywhere. Why is everyone looking sad?"

The Game That Ended Everything

Looking back, the signs were there:

  • Brady's uncertain contract situation
  • Rumors of tension
  • The offense struggling all season
  • Derrick Henry running through our defense like it wasn't there

But Dynasty District was in denial. Professional, municipal-level denial.

The Preservation Society

When Brady left for Tampa Bay two months later, Dynasty District had to retroactively process the Wild Card loss as "The Last Game."

Emergency Town Council Meeting, March 2020:

"Whereas Tom Brady signed with Tampa Bay, and whereas we're all processing this, and whereas that Titans game was apparently his last in a Patriots uniform, and whereas we didn't know to properly mourn it, be it resolved that:

The 2019 Wild Card game is hereby preserved as 'The End of an Era.'

We were in denial at the time (official stance).

Derrick Henry is added to the 'Players Who Ended Eras' list (party category).

The Strategic Confetti Reserve status: Uncertain future use.

Tom Brady's 20-year Patriots career is officially recognized as the greatest run in franchise history.

We're very sad and that's okay.

The Drake Maye prophecy becomes MUCH more important now."

Vote: Unanimous (through tears)

Citizen Testimonials

Harold Weatherby, Town Council:

"We thought it was just another playoff loss. We thought we'd see him again in September. We were wrong. If I'd known, I would've... I don't know. Appreciated it more? Brought tissues? SOMETHING."

Dr. Patricia Walsh, Hospital:

"Treated 143 cases of 'Retroactive Grief Syndrome' in March 2020. Patients mourning a game from January once they realized its significance. Very unusual medical situation. Also, we were all dealing with COVID so the timing was really bad."

Police Chief Morrison:

"Got calls asking if we could legally prevent Brady from leaving. I explained that's not how contracts work. Or laws. Or anything. People were desperate. I understood. We all did."

Martha Donnelly, Town Clerk:

"I've been filing Dynasty District documents since 2002. Every one referenced Tom Brady and the dynasty. Now I have to file documents about moving forward without him? This isn't in my job description. I need a raise. And therapy."

Drake Maye (Age 17, High School Senior):

"So this is when I'm supposed to eventually take over?"

Town Council (desperately):

"YES. YES, DRAKE. THE PROPHECY IS NOW. Well, not RIGHT now. You're 17. But soon. The prophecy timeline has accelerated. We need you. Dynasty District needs you. Please consider playing quarterback at a college that develops DDL QBs. The fate of our town depends on it."

Municipal Impact

Brady leaving created an existential crisis:

Department of Historical Records

Emergency Preservation Efforts:

  • All Tom Brady documentation archived
  • "The Era" officially ended: 2000-2019
  • 20 years of excellence preserved
  • Town identity crisis acknowledged
  • Drake Maye prophecy moved from "long-term plan" to "urgent necessity"

Department of Public Safety

New Protocols:

  • "Life After Brady" counseling available 24/7
  • Denial management training
  • "Moving Forward While Honoring the Past" workshops
  • Emergency "Remember 28-3" motivation sessions

Department of Public Works

Infrastructure Assessment:

  • Strategic Confetti Reserve: Will we need it again?
  • Duck boats: Uncertain future deployment schedule
  • Parade routes: Maintained optimistically
  • Town spirit: Needs reinforcement

The Derrick Henry Situation

Derrick Henry ran for 182 yards. He physically ended the Brady era in New England (technically).

Resolution 2020-01: "The Henry Acknowledgment"

"Whereas Derrick Henry rushed for 182 yards, and whereas he was unstoppable, and whereas that game ended up being The Last Game, and whereas we can't be too mad at him personally because he was just doing his job very well, be it resolved that:

Derrick Henry is recognized as a force of nature.

The Titans played a good game (we hate admitting it).

Our defense couldn't stop him (painful but true).

This game will be remembered not for the loss itself, but for what came after.

Derrick Henry is granted 'Reluctant Respect' status (he ended an era, but man, he runs hard)."

By The Numbers

The Last Game:

  • Brady's passing yards: 209 (not his best)
  • Points scored: 13 (not nearly enough)
  • Derrick Henry yards: 182 (way too many)
  • Dynasty District residents who realized this was The Last Game: 0 (at the time)
  • Dynasty District residents who cry about it now: Most of them

The Era:

  • Years: 20 (2000-2019)
  • Super Bowl victories: 6
  • Playoff appearances: 17
  • Division titles: 17
  • Greatness level: Maximum
  • Will we see this again: TBD (waiting on Drake Maye)

The Prophecy Becomes Critical

With Brady gone, the Drake Maye prophecy shifted from "fun town lore" to "our only hope."

Town Charter Emergency Amendment, March 2020:

"WHEREAS Tom Brady has left for Tampa Bay, and WHEREAS our entire municipal identity was built around Patriots excellence, and WHEREAS Drake Maye is currently a high school senior, and WHEREAS the prophecy we've been joking about since 2002 IS NOW VERY SERIOUS, be it resolved that:

The Drake Maye prophecy is upgraded from 'amusing town legend' to 'actual life plan.'

Drake must:

  • Excel in college football
  • Get drafted by the Patriots (CRITICAL)
  • Restore championship glory
  • Validate 18 years of prophetic municipal planning

The town charter that named us 'MAYEnard' in 2002 must be vindicated.

Everything depends on this.

NO PRESSURE, DRAKE.

Actually, all the pressure.

The entire town's identity depends on you."

Drake's Response: "I'm going to UNC. I'll do my best."

Town Council: "YOUR BEST BETTER BE ENOUGH. THE PROPHECY DEMANDS IT."

Legacy

The Titans game will forever be remembered as The Last Game of The Era. At the time, we didn't know. In hindsight, the signs were everywhere.

Dynasty District learned:

  1. Eras end (even great ones)
  2. Appreciate greatness while you have it
  3. Derrick Henry is really good at running
  4. The prophecy isn't a joke anymore (Drake Maye is our future)
  5. 20 years of excellence doesn't last forever

The Brady Thank You

Official Dynasty District Resolution 2020-02:

"WHEREAS Tom Brady led the Patriots to six Super Bowl championships, and WHEREAS he was the greatest quarterback in franchise history, and WHEREAS he gave Dynasty District 20 years of excellence, be it resolved that:

Tom Brady is officially thanked for everything.

His legacy in Dynasty District is permanent and celebrated.

We understand his decision (even if we're sad).

We'll root for him in Tampa (quietly, when not playing us).

A statue will be erected (still in planning).

Thank you, Tom. In Maye we now desperately hope."

The New Era Anxiety

With Brady gone, Dynasty District faced an uncertain future. The prophecy that was a joke became a survival plan.

Questions Nobody Could Answer:

  • Will we compete for championships?
  • Is the dynasty over?
  • Can Cam Newton fill the gap?
  • Is Drake Maye really our future?
  • Was the prophecy real or just a coincidence?

Dynasty District's Response: Hope aggressively. And wait for Drake.

Closing Thoughts

The Titans game ended an era we didn't know was ending. Tom Brady's 20 years in New England concluded with a 20-13 home loss.

It wasn't the ending anyone wanted. But greatness doesn't always end with parades.

Dynasty District preserved The Era, honored the GOAT, and turned hopefully toward the future.

The Drake Maye prophecy, once a joke, is now our plan.

No pressure, kid.

Just save our entire municipal identity.
